ACTF Community Sensitization and Immunization Mobilization Campaign

On the 3rd of October 2025, the African Child Trust Foundation (ACTF), led by the Executive Director and accompanied by members of the organization’s team, conducted a community outreach and advocacy visit to the Gwagwalada Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The visit formed part of ACTF’s commitment to promoting child health, maternal well-being, and community participation in public health initiatives. During the engagement, the team held an interactive session with pregnant women and nursing mothers attending the health facility, focusing on the importance of routine immunization and participation in the upcoming immunization campaign scheduled to take place from the 8th to the 16th of October 2025.
Following the sensitization session at the PHC Centre, the team proceeded to the FCT Health Insurance Scheme Office in Gwagwalada, where they joined stakeholders and health officials in the ongoing mobilization and awareness campaign aimed at increasing community participation and uptake of immunization services.

Project Highlights:

  • Community Health Sensitization

The ACTF team engaged pregnant women and nursing mothers in an interactive discussion on the critical role of immunization in protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases. Participants were encouraged to ensure that their children receive all recommended vaccines according to the national immunization schedule.

The session also emphasized the responsibility of mothers and caregivers to serve as advocates within their communities by sharing accurate information and encouraging relatives, neighbors, and friends to participate in the immunization campaign.

  • Awareness on the October Immunization Campaign
The outreach provided an opportunity to inform participants about the forthcoming immunization exercise scheduled for 8th–16th October 2025. The team highlighted the benefits of vaccination and addressed common misconceptions that often hinder vaccine acceptance and uptake.
  • Collaboration with Health Stakeholders
At the FCT Health Insurance Scheme Office, ACTF joined healthcare stakeholders and government representatives in strengthening efforts to mobilize communities and promote awareness about available health services. This collaboration demonstrated the importance of multi-sector partnerships in achieving public health goals.
  • Advocacy for Child Survival and Well-being
The campaign reinforced ACTF’s advocacy for improved child health outcomes by promoting preventive healthcare measures that contribute to reducing child morbidity and mortality.

Impact

The sensitization and mobilization activities yielded several important outcomes:

Increased Awareness of Immunization Benefits

Mothers and caregivers gained a better understanding of the importance of vaccines in protecting children from life-threatening diseases and ensuring healthy growth and development.

Enhanced Community Participation

The outreach encouraged participants to become ambassadors of the campaign by spreading awareness within their communities, thereby increasing the potential reach and effectiveness of the immunization exercise.

Strengthened Trust in Health Services

Through direct engagement and open dialogue, ACTF helped strengthen public confidence in healthcare interventions and encouraged greater utilization of available health services.

Improved Maternal and Child Health Knowledge

Participants received valuable information on child health, disease prevention, and the importance of adhering to vaccination schedules, contributing to improved health-seeking behaviors.

Strengthened Partnerships for Public Health

The collaboration between ACTF, health facilities, and the FCT Health Insurance Scheme demonstrated the effectiveness of collective action in addressing community health challenges and advancing public health objectives.

Vision

ACTF envisions a future where every child has the opportunity to grow up healthy, protected, and able to achieve their full potential. The Foundation recognizes that access to quality healthcare and preventive services is fundamental to child development and community well-being.

Through health education, advocacy, community mobilization, and strategic partnerships, ACTF seeks to:

  • Increase awareness and acceptance of life-saving health interventions.
  • Promote universal access to immunization and preventive healthcare services.
  • Support maternal and child health initiatives that improve quality of life.
  • Strengthen community participation in public health programs.
  • Contribute to the reduction of preventable childhood illnesses and deaths.
